One Central Park is the vision of Frasers Property Australia and Sekisui House Australia, two international companies defined by the calibre of their projects and shared commitment to sustainable development.
For One Central Park we have secured a major coup in bringing French architect Jean Nouvel to Australia. The Parisian design star is the winner of architecture’s Nobel Prize – the Pritzker and a host of other awards in country after country where he builds. Nouvel creates unforgettable skyscrapers, opera houses, museums and universities that grace city skylines from Manhattan to Tokyo.
At any one time, Nouvel’s office can be working in a dozen places on prestige design projects – from a new branch of the Louvre in Abu Dhabi to a limited edition perfume bottle for Yves San Laurent. His always innovative work is technically cutting-edge but conceptually poetic. At One Central Park he has merged a park with a tower to spectacular effect.
Like its New York namesake, Central Park’s 6,400 sqm park is a destination in itself, a meeting to unwind in after the excitement of the nearby city streets.
This magnificent park is the new green heart of a district home to a number of parks and gardens. Wander or cycle through its tranquil groves where stately shading fig trees and Australian native plants surround lawns for informal al fresco dining with friends. Where players can ponder over outdoor chessboards and open air cinema, providore markets and music festivals are planned to animate this idyllic heaven. Jean Nouvel’s Sydney masterpiece is a living, breathing Eden, where the external walls of the apartments are carpeted in a lush tapestry of plants
The daring pinnacle of One Central Park is crowned by a hovering cantilever that contains the tower’s most luxurious penthouses.
Here too, is a jettying heliostat – a beguiling assemblage of motorized mirrors that captures sunlight and directs its rays down onto Central Park’s gardens year round. After dark, the cantilevering structure (a favoured Nouvel architectural device) is the canvas for leading light artist Yann Kersalé’s LED art installation that carves a shimmering firework of movement in the sky and brings a new architectural shape to One Central Park by starlight.
