Jean Nouvel - Architect
Jean Nouvel is a Pritzker Prize-winning architect, who is creating his first Australian architectural masterpiece, One Central Park, in collaboration with French botanical artist Patrick Blanc.
Over the past 40 years, Jean Nouvel has won almost every prize it’s possible to win, including the Praemium Imperiale in Tokyo and the Pritzker Prize, which is the highest accolade of all within the world of architecture. His first Australian architectural masterpiece, One Central Park, has been created in collaboration with French botanical artist Patrick Blanc.
“At Central Park, we want to give something to the future inhabitants of Sydney by creating a new version of the urban park. Just because you are living in the city, you do not have to lose the advantages of living in the country. For me, vegetation is part of the vocabulary of architecture."
Landscape is architecture. So at One Central Park, we have created a kind of continuity between the park and the buildings, so the façades literally extend the park into the sky. By miming what can exist in Australian nature, we are proposing a new form of high-rise living in direct contact with nature.
