The Parks / Green Space - 144

PLACE THE PARKS / GREEN SPACE

The heart of Central Park is its gorgeous park designed by Turf Design (Sydney) and Jeppe Aagaard Andersen (Copenhagen), covering more than 6,400 square meters.

“Our vision for Central Park is to design a green oasis that sits at the centre of an existing inner-city neighbourhood,” says Mike Horne, Director of Turf Design. “Central Park will become the green heart of Chippendale – a place to get out, feel the sunlight, come together and meet friends.”

It’s no secret that the world’s best cities aren’t defined by their architecture alone – it’s their parks and green spaces that give them their true character. Central Park will therefore be such a great place to replenish the spirit – a tranquil oasis in a bustling urban precinct.

“If you’re walking from Regent Street to Broadway, suddenly you will find yourself in a place where you are not near cars, where you can only hear voices, and there are chairs, benches, trees and flowers. If you are working and living in the city, you need these breaks,” says Jeppe Aagaard Anderson, who is based in Cophenhagen.

Shaded by deciduous and evergreen trees, the parks and lawns at Central Park deliver a much-welcome splash of greenery in a suburb was formerly home to just two small pocket parks.
